Looking at Vodafone Idea Using the Latest Spectrum Ownership Analysis Tool
Share
Spektrum Metrics is excited to announce an expansion of our industry leading spectrum ownership analysis products to cover the Mobile Carrier (600MHz to 3.7GHz) frequency bands for India. The Mobile Carrier Tool not only provides the spectrum allocation details for all of the Indian Mobile Carrier spectrum but it provides 27 different analysis modules and charts to analyze and compare each wireless carrier's spectrum assets by channel, market, frequency band, band classification, and NR band class.
The Indian Spectrum Grid details the spectrum ownership for each Indian district. The districts can be seen on the map below which also indicates the Telecom Circle for each district.
To begin examining Vodafone Idea's position in the Indian market, we will look at the licensed population outputs. First, looking at the Licensed Population by Band Classification, Vodafone Idea has coverage spectrum (low band) covering 70% of India's population and 4G spectrum (lower mid-band) covering about 82% of India's population. Vodafone Idea covers just a fraction (3M) of India's 1.2 billion people with 5G spectrum (upper mid-band). Our India tool is currently using the latest census population (2011) but a new census is slated to be conducted this year which should update all of our district population values to bring the overall population up to the current 1.4 billion estimates.
In our second Licensed Population chart, we are displaying the actual population values rather than the country percentage. It is clear that Vodafone Idea can reach roughly 870M people with their 900MHz spectrum and slightly more than a 1B people with its 1800MHz spectrum. The next step to analyze would be how many MHz of spectrum does Vodafone Idea have in each band. If you are interested in looking at this further, please find a time in my calendar by clicking here.
