Weekly Spectrum Transaction Summary - June 28, 2019 August 28, 2019 08:52

In this week's FCC transactions, Verizon filed to acquire Union Telephone's PCS spectrum in the Pocatello, ID and Salt Lake, UT markets.  In addition, Verizon is acquiring Union's AWS-1 spectrum in the Idaho Falls area.  Sprint submitted a new lease for Gulf Coast State College's EBS spectrum in the panhandle of Florida.  This spectrum was previously leased to Spectrum Holdings.  SouthernLinc filed to lease a two channels of Sprint's BRS license in Augusta, GA.  The final application involved ATN International requesting EBS white space channels in  St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas Islands.  ATN filed an special temporary authority (STA) to operate these channels after Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.  This STA provided access to the EBS channels on each of these islands that ATN did not previously control.  It will be interesting to see if this application is approved with the FCC planning an auction for these 2.5GHz licenses.  Although I would consider it unlikely that the FCC would grant this application, it is conceivable that the FCC could grant the application because of the investment and support ATNI has continued to provide since the hurricane.
