Comparing AT&T and T-Mobile's 600MHz Spectrum Totals

Comparing AT&T and T-Mobile's 600MHz Spectrum Totals

Previously we looked at the the effect of the AT&T / Echostar deal to determine the remaining 600MHz channels that would not already be committed to AT&T or T-Mobile.  In this post, we are going to examine the number of channels that T-Mobile and AT&T will control in each PEA market.

Visually, T-Mobile has 4 or more channels in almost all of the PEA markets except notably New York and San Diego.  Interesting, San Diego has 2 channels that are not available because they were not purchased in the original 600MHz auction.

From a numbers perspective, T-Mobile has 6 available channels (30x30MHz) in 86 PEA markets and more than 4 channels (20x20MHz) in nearly 93% of the PEA markets.

Visually, AT&T has 1 channel in most PEA markets, with 2 channels available in most of the urban markets.  The one market where they will lead T-Mobile in 600MHz spectrum is the New York PEA market where they will have 4 channels (20x20MHz).

Numerically, AT&T will have a 5x5MHz channel in 269 PEA markets with 2 channels (10x10MHz) available in less than 25% of the PEA markets.
